NEW IB SUBJECT: ECONOMICS SL
As from 2013 St. Catherine's Moorlands School Tortuguitas has included the option IB Economics SL exclusively for the senior students who have chosen the "Economics and Business Orientation" for their last three years of Secondary Education.
IB Economics will be taught within the subjects Elementos de Micro y Macro and Economía Política for all of the students that have chosen such orientation. Students who choose the subject within their International Baccalaureate Programme will have additional classes parallel to those of Art and French.
The subject will be taught both in Spanish and English and the IB exam will be in English.
GOOD LUCK!!!

IB ECONOMICS - YEAR 1
During the first year the students complete Section One of the IB Economics Standard Level Syllabus, which has already been introduced during the previous year in the subject "Teoría de las Organizaciones".
The objective of year 1 is not only to introduce students to basic economic concepts and problems, but also get them used to the type of question and exercises they will face in both papers of the IB Economics exam the next year.
During this year, we focus on developing central skills and abilities needed to score a good mark on such exam: students learn how to use diagrams to describe and explain a problem and its possible solutions, learn the skill of defining and using economic vocabulary appropriately, learn to analyse data or information and make critical evaluations and rational judgments based on economic theory.
Students who choose this subject within their IB Diploma Programme must sit for a mid-year exam, a final exam at the end of the year and also write their first internal assessment commentary for their Economic's Portfolio, all of which are graded and included in the subject's final mark.
